The park encompasses 47,656 acres, ranging in elevation from sea level to 1,532'. Cadillac Mountain, at 1,532', is the highest point on the Atlantic coastal seaboard in North America. This feature distinguishes Acadia National Park from other eastern coastal locations. Located mostly on Mount Desert Island, smaller areas are designated on Isle Au Haut and the Schoodic Peninsula, attached to the mainland. The rugged and steep coastline designated it the 1st National Park east of the Mississippi River. The easiest way to see this park is take the 27-mile, one-way road that hugs the edge of the island. See tall cliffs drop down into the crashing surf.
Activities include camping, biking, fishing, boating, cross country skiing, hiking and sightseeing. Full resources and facilities are found in Bangor, Ellsworth, the resort community of Bar Harbor and other nearby small towns. For further information contact Acadia National Park, P.O.
