Canyonlands National National Park

Welcome to the Canyonlands National National Park Website of pictures within the World from the Web Home page. Located in eastern Utah, it is southwest of Moab. Most of the National Park is in a remote portion of the state. A portion of the park is easily accessed from Moab. Many would consider Moab the center of extreme sports in the USA. Moab provides full facilities with services. The park itself has limited facilities. From Moab, take SR191 10 miles north. Turn left (west and south) onto SR313 and go 22 miles to enter the park (Island in the Sky District).

The park occupies 337,598 acres with a top elevation of 7,120' (Cathedral Point). The lowest point is 3,700' at the Big Drop Rapids (Colorado River). The park offers sweeping views of canyon and redrocks. River access is also available for those who hike into the canyons. The park is split into 3 districts; Island in the Sky, Needles and the Maze. These 3 districts are separated from each other by the convergence of the two large rivers, the Green and the Colorado. There is no direct road access from one district to the next. Island of the Sky is the most easily accessed from Moab and includes the Grand Views of Canyons that many visitors may be familar with. Needles is much more remote but still easily accessible. The Maze is only accessible with a 4 WD or backpacking in. It is also only accessible from a remote portion of Utah. There is also Horseshoe Canyon, to the west, that is a detached area of the park.

Activities include camping, biking, hiking and sightseeing. For more information contact Superintendent, Canyonlands National National Park, 2282 SW Resource Blvd, Moab, Utah 84532 or call 435-719-2313.

All pictures below are from Canyonlands National Park, using film and digital cameras. The first 2 pages are presented as a tour, starting on SR 313 and travelling south and then west into the park. These 2 pages are from the most accessible district, Island in the Sky. The 3rd page is from a more remote district, Needles.
