The New Jersey portion of Gateway National Recreation Area can be reached from New York City by taking either the Lincoln or Holland Tunnels, follow signs for the New Jersey Turnpike South, travel on the NJT to exit 11. Get off and proceed on the Garden State Parkway south to exit 117. Proceed on Rt 36 east until reaching the beach. Turn left at the beach and proceed into the Recreation Area.

This property contains 26,000 acres of land all at sea level. This land is split into 4 areas on three land masses including 2 "land arms" of which Sandy Hook is one. The pictures of Gateway on this page are all from the Sandy Hook "land arm".
