East Coast

Welcome to the East Coast 2nd page of pictures. Pictures seen on this page are from the Jamaican Bay Wildlife Refuge and some Long Island beach scenes. The Wildlife Refuge is part of Gateway National Recreation Area which is spread out over New York and New Jersey. From downtown Manhattan, take the "A" subway line to the Rockaways. Exit at Broad Channel Station. Walk west to Crossbay Blvd (~2 blocks) and go north (right) on the Blvd. Go about a half (1/2) mile and the refuge is on your left. This 9,155 acre park houses many species of birds (more then 325 recorded) and is completely contained within NYC.

West Pond, Salt Marsh, World Trade Center (in background) and plane in the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. It is hard to believe with the relative quiet and calmness of the area that you are near one of the largest airports in the country, JFK International.
