Kaibab National Forest

Welcome to the Kaibab National Forest Website of pictures within the World from the Web Home page. Located in northern Arizona, this park encompasses the Grand Canyon. Williams is the largest town in the area and is about 25 miles west of Flagstaff from I-40. Historic Rt 66 passes through Williams.

The 1.6 million acres of the Kaibab borders both the north and south rims of the Grand Canyon. The South Kaibab covers 1,422 square miles and the North Kaibab stretches over 1,010 square miles. Elevations vary on the forest from 5,500 feet in the southwest corner to 10,418 feet at the summit of Kendrick Peak on the Williams Ranger District.

Activities include hunting, fishing, hiking, trail rides, biking, sightseeing and cross-country skiing. Temperatures can get quite hot and exceed 100F during the summer. There are sufficient facilities in the towns of the South Kaibab. There is limited facilities in the North Kaibab. Sycamore Point, which is accessed from the Williams Ranger Station. It is best to get directions at the ranger station as you must travel remote county roads. Despite the roads, it is amazing to think that the Grand Canyon, only 100 or so miles away draws millions of people while this spectacular canyon is virtually unheard of. When I visited Sycamore Point in October 2000, I was the only person there.
