Lake Tahoe

Welcome to the Lake Tahoe Website of pictures within the World from the Web Home page. The lake is located in eastern California and western Nevada. The lake is within 1 hour of Reno and Carson City Nevada. It is within 4+ hours of the San Francisco Bay Area and 2+ hours of Sacremento. Take I-80E from either of these California locations until reaching Truckee. Then take Rt89S until you enter Tahoe City.

Lake Tahoe is nestled in the Sierra Nevada Mountains at an elevation of 6,225 feet, 22 miles long and 12 miles wide. It is the largest alpine lake in North America with a 105,000-acre surface and 1,645' deep. The Lake Tahoe Basin is 205,000 acres in size. The Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit was established in 1973 to manage land from three national forests; the Tahoe, Eldorado, and Toiyabe are within the Basin. 77 percent of the Basin is in national forest, 16 percent is in private ownership and 7 is state land. State lands include five state parks and lands administered by the California Tahoe Conservancy and the Nevada State Lands Commission.

The average snowfall is 500 inches at alpine skiing elevations up to 11,000 feet. It is surrounded by the numerous world class ski slopes. Other activities include camping, hiking, biking, boating, swimming and fishing. Nightlife is abundent around the lake and includes mega resorts in many of the Nevada areas.

South Shore from Hairpin Turn off of Rt 89, south of Cascade Lake and Emerald Bay. As I approached this spot and view, it was a case of deja vu until I realized that I had attended a wedding here many years prior of some college friends.
