Gifford Pinchot National Forest

Welcome to the Gifford Pinchot National Forest Website of pictures within the World from the Web Home page. Located in the southwestern portion of Washington, this national forest covers significant portions of the Cascade Mountains. Contained within the national forest is Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument (8,366') and the much larger but more remote Mt Adams. Both are active volcanoes, which is typical of the large Cascade peaks. The forest also borders Mount Rainier National Park to the north and Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area to the south. Portland Oregon is the nearest large city. It is 1 1/2 hours away. It offers full resources and facilities. Take I-5N to Rt503E to bring you into the heart of the forest from Portland. The forest is also easily accesed from Seattle (a little over 3 hours). There are other smaller towns and cities that are closer to the national forest, especially along I-5.

The park is 1.37 million acres and features Mt Adams, which at 12,326' is the highest peak in the national forest and the 2nd highest in the region (Mt. Rainier to the north is higher). Some of the best huckleberry fields in the Northwest are found in this park.

Activities include camping, hiking, biking, cross country skiing, swimming (water is typically cold), boating, fishing and sightseeing. For more information, contact Gifford Pinchot National Forest, 10600 NE 51st Circle, Vancouver, WA 98682 or call (360)-891-5000.
