Norvin Green State Forest

Welcome to the Norvin Green State Forest Website of pictures within the World from the Web Home page. Located in northeast New Jersey, the park is approximately 35 miles northwest of New York City. From the George Washington Bridge, take Rt. 4W, Rt. 208N, which briefly turns into Rt287. Get off at exit 57 (Skyline Dr). Right onto Skyline, pass over a mountain. First stopsign, bare left (still on Skyline). At the second stopsign, turn left onto Rt. 511S. Proceed 1.7 miles, make a right onto W. Brook Rd. Pass over Wanaque Reservoir. Bare left at the fork (still on W. Brook). Make the 2nd left onto Snake Den Rd. Pass Ellen St. and then turn right into Weis Ecology Center parking lot.

View from High Point, looking at the Ramapo Mtns and Wanaque Resevoir. This hike is found in Experience #20, Fodor's Short Escapes near New York City. It is a 4 mile hike with an elevation change of approximately 700'.

This was the same hike as above done earlier in the year in the winter time. With a good case of cabin fever, this was an enjoyable hike for a cold and damp day. However, as the picture shows, the first viewpoint was completely fogged in and very little could be seen during the entire hike.

Returning to the same viewpoint in the spring, a much better view was seen this time.
