Welcome to the Mt. Mitchell State Park within the Pisgah National Forest Website of pictures within the World from the Web Home page. Located in the western portion of North Carolina, this state park is easily accessed from the Blue Ridge Parkway. From near mile 355, take Rt 128 five miles into the park. Access to the park can be limited in colder seasons as portions of the Blue Ridge Highway are adpt to close. The park has limited services and facilities. Asheville, the nearest city 30 miles away to the southwest has full services and facilities. The Blue Ridge Parkway going south will take you into Asheville.

The park is 1,836 acres and features Mt Mitchell, which at 6,684' is the highest peak in the east. Activities include camping, cross country skiing, hiking and sightseeing. For more information, contact Mount Mitchell State Park, Route 5 Box 700, Burnsville, NC 28714 or call (828) 675-4611.

From Wisemans View, Table Rock Mtn and the Linville River. Take Rt. 183 until it ends, look for signs. It is ~ 4 miles on a dirt road. It is a short hike from the parking lot and there is a visitors center along the dirt road.

Linville Falls, upper and lower from the Chimney View. This is a 1.4 mile roundtrip hike from the visitors center. Turnoff is near mile 317 along the Blue Ridge Parkway.
