Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area

Welcome to the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area Website of pictures within the World from the Web Home page. Located in southern Nevada, this park is just to the west of Las Vegas. From Las Vegas take Charleston Rd. west. Follow the signs to the park. This is about a 20 mile trip.

The National Conservation Area contains 195,819 acres of land. Elevations range from 4000 feet of High Mojave Desert to 8,154 ft (La Madre Mountain). There is a 13-mile scenic loop drive that takes you through the heart of Red Rocks. Managed by the BLM (Bureau of Land Management), this is only one of 13 National Conservation Areas throughout the country. It is the most visited of the 13 Areas. The most significant geologic feature of Red Rock Canyon NCA is the Keystone Thrust Fault. This showcases a set of large red sandstone peaks and walls that are up to 3,000 ft high, making them a popular hiking and rock climbing destination.

Activities in the park include sightseeing, camping, rock climbing, hiking and biking. During the summer months the temperature can easily exceed 100F. The park contains limited facilities but Las Vegas is easily accessed from the park. For further information, contact Red Rocks Canyon National Conservation Area, HCR 33, Box 5500, Las Vegas, NV. 89124 or call 702-363-1921.
