Shenandoah National Park

Welcome to the Shenandoah National Park Website of pictures within the World from the Web Home page. The National Park is located in northern Virginia. From the Washington DC beltway, take I-66 west for approximately 1+ hours. Follow signs into the national park, either from route 55 or 340. Front Royal is the largest nearby town and is immediately adjacent to the park in the north, just off of I-66. It has full services and facilities. There are other entrances and small towns throughout the parks 105 mile length if you don't approach it from the DC area. The southern tip of the park connects directly to the Blue Ridge Parkway, which is a 461 mile scenic drive and is within 20 miles of the city of Charlottesville.

Shenandoah is 196,149 acres of land residing in the Blue Ridge Mountains, part of the larger Appalachian Mountain range. The altitude varies from approximatley 1200' to 4051'.

The park has a full range of activities including hiking, fishing, camping and sightseeing. This includes access to the Appalachian Trail, which parallels Skyline Drive throughout the park. All pictures are from Shenandoah National Park, using various film and digital cameras. A majority of the pictures are taken from Skyline Drive, which runs 105 miles along the entire north-south length of the park. Some pictures are taken from short hikes that begin at Skyline Drive. Pictures are ordered here from north to south.

Dark Hollow Falls from the Dark Hollow Trail. This waterfall has a 70' descent. The hike is a 1.4 mile roundtrip with a 440' descent. This is picked up from the Dark Hollow Falls Parking at mile 51.

From Bearfence Mountain at 3620'. This is a short 0.8 mile roundtrip hike with a 300' climb. Some rock scrambling is required. It is picked up from the Bearfence Mtn parking at mile 56.
