Stanislaus National Forest

Welcome to the Stanislaus National Forest Website of pictures within the World from the Web Home page. Located in eastern California, three State routes (120, 108, and 4) provide access to the western reaches of the Stanislaus National Forest and its three designated wildernesses areas. The views of Mokelume, Carson-Iceberg, and Emigrant Wildernesses along these routes are beautiful. The Stanislaus lies in the central Sierra Nevada Mountains in east-central California, between the Mokelumne and the Merced Rivers. It is headquartered in the town of Sonora. The Forest forms the northwest boundary of Yosemite National Park.

Stanislaus National Forest contains 898,099 acres in four counties in Northern California. It was established in 1897, making it one of the oldest national forests. It was named after the Stanislaus River. The Emigrant Wilderness and a portion of the Carson Iceberg Wilderness are located entirely within its boundaries. It contains 78 lakes and 811 miles of rivers and streams. The proximity of the Stanislaus National Forest to the San Francisco Bay Area make it a popular recreation destination. Whitewater rafting and kayaking can be found in the Wild and Scenic Tuolumne River and Cherry Creek. Other beautiful rivers flowing out of the Stanislaus National Forest include the Clavey and the Stanislaus River.
