George Washington & Jefferson National Forest

Welcome to the George Washington & Jefferson National Forest Website of pictures within the World from the Web Home page. Located in the western portion of Virginia, these national forests lie adjacent to each other and often are treated as one. The Blue Ridge Parkway travels completely through the eastern portion of the park. The Blue Ridge Parkway runs 469 miles, starting at the southern end of Shenandoah National Park/northern end of this park and ending in the town of Cherokee, outside of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This parkway or portions of it can be closed during the colder winter months. Roanoke, the nearest city, is on the southern edge of the park. It offers full resources and facilities. Charlottesville, an old historic city, is to the east. Take I-64 west about 20 miles into Waynesboro and the Blue Ridge Parkway.

The combined parks cover over 1.7 million acres. Mt Rogers, the highest peak in Virginia, is 5,729'. Activities include camping, hiking, biking, cross country skiing, swimming, boating, fishing and sightseeing.
