Deliah Hubbard Bio

Deliah created the logo for "World from the Web". Below is a bio and some examples of her watercolors. She paints abstract flowers and landscapes. Deliah also teaches art to adults and home schooled children.
I was born in San Francisco, CA. in 1969 and was brought up in the Bay Area and Sonoma County. I attended The Evergreen State College in Washington State which is where I first started dabbling in watercolors. Upon graduating with a B.A. in the Liberal Arts I returned to California and lived in Santa Cruz which is where I had my son, Adriel. Two years later I was given the opportunity to move to Montana where my mother and brother lived in Big Fork, two hours northwest of Missoula. It was here when I began to paint in earnest, especially abstract flowers and mountain landscapes, undoubtedly greatly inspired by my new surroundings.

Being the eldest of six children, teaching kids to paint was the natural next step. I taught privately, to large groups of home schooled children and through the Bigfork Art Center in Bigfork and the Hockaday Museum in Kalispell. I ran week long summer art classes. During the year 1996, my mother and I opened an art school where I was co-director and taught several different classes of different mediums. Currently I teach primarily to adults and focus on my own painting, showing some work and taking some commissions.

As a young child what attracted me to art was old illustrations in children's fairy tale books, especially the first Grimes Brother's illustrator, Arthur Rackham. In later years I have been inspired by Art Nouveau and Georgia O'Keefe. I chose watercolor as my medium because I love the transparency of watercolors and the way water reacts when it is mixed with paint. Ultimately I'd like to illustrate my own children's book.

These days I paint, ride my horse, garden and finish building my straw bale house with my son while continuing teaching. Ironically, although I'm self taught, I get tremendous joy sharing the excitment of discovery my students feel while learning how to paint.
